  5. Welcome to my help file reference for ARJ 2.50a. It is intended to
  6. assist users of the ARJ archiver by providing easy reference to ARJ
  7. commands and switches.
  8.  
  9. LEGAL STUFF

  11. CAUTION! This Windows help file was compiled from edited and abridged
  12. versions of some of the documentation files distributed with ARJ 2.50a.
  13. Although due care was taken while preparing it, there may be errors of
  14. various kinds, including spelling mistakes, and the contents may be
  15. inaccurate.

  17. ARJ Software has not been involved in this project and has not
  18. authorised or given permission for this help file. Consequently, ARJ
  19. Software is not in any way liable or responsible for the contents or use
  20. of this file.

  27. INSTALLATION
  28. ------------
  29. Easy! 
  30.  
  31. 1. Extract all the files in the archive to a directory.
  32.  
  33. 2. Run the SETUP program from Windows 3.1 Program Manager (select File |
  34.    Run on the menu) or double click it using the File Manager .
  35.  
  36. No files will be installed to your \Windows or \Windows\System
  37. directories - so the files can be removed by simply deleting the
  38. directory. Default installation is to C:\ARJDOC12. A Program Manager
  39. group and icon will be created.
  40.  
  41. REQUIREMENTS
  42. ------------
  43. - MS WIndows 3.1 (or higher, I suppose - I dunno; I've only tried it in 3.1)
  44. - Mouse (who would try to use Windows without a mouse, anyway?)
  45. - 16 colour or higher vga card + colour monitor
  46. - 600 Kb (approximately) hard drive space
  47.  
  48. USING ARJ DOC 1.2
  49. -----------------
  50. ARJ Doc is a Windows 3.1 help file. You should be able to run it by
  51. double clicking its group icon, or by double clicking it in the File
  52. Manager.

  54. Full-text search is implemented for easy reference. 
  55.  
  56. POSSIBLE BUGS & PROBLEMS
  57. ------------------------
  58. You may find that when using the full-text search feature, searched-for
  59. information from the secondary Table of Contents window is displayed in
  60. the main window. (Although I hope I cleared up all of these design
  61. bugs!)

  63. My display at home is set up for 800 by 600 SVGA 16 million colour
  64. display, so I have no idea how this file is going to display on your
  65. system. Drop me a note, and let me know.

  67. AUTHOR'S COMMENTS

  69. ARJ Doc 1.2 is FREEWARE! Anybody in the whole world may use it for
  70. anything they like (it is NOT guaranteed to be fit for any purpose
  71. whatsoever!). The help file says that I retain the copyright to it, but
  72. since the information is taken almost entirely from the docs distributed
  73. with ARJ 2.50a, I'm not sure how well this would stand up to legal
  74. scrutiny. I authored the help file because I wanted an easy, on-line
  75. reference.

  77. I have taken the following files and produced a single Windows help file
  78. out of them:

  81. - ARJ.DOC
  82. - ERRORS.DOC
  83. - LICENSE.DOC

  85. Be warned, though. The files are NOT 100% intact. First, I had to run
  86. them through a text reformatting program to make them useable. Then I
  87. edited some portions slightly. There may therefore be various kinds of
  88. errors and inaccuracies, including spelling mistakes.

  90. As I've (already!) said, I assume no responsibility or liability for any
  91. damage whatsoever caused by the use of, or the contents of, this help
  92. file. There are no guarantees that it is fit for any use of any kind.

  99. Special thanks go to Bernd Herd for developing the Asetup installation
  100. program and making it available as freeware. (I've found that most
  101. people prefer to have a setup program when installing software, rather
  102. than doing a manual installation themselves - go figure!).
